Overview
There are 2 ways to reset a password in MC Professional:
- A Member: Resets it themselves using the link on your website's login page.
- An Administrator: Resets it for the member directly from their profile.
Administrators can either email a secure reset link to the member or change the password manually.
How a member resets their own password
- Go to the login page of your website and click the Reset Password link.
- Enter your email address and click SEND PASSWORD RESET EMAIL.
- Open your email inbox and click the secure Reset Password link inside the message.
- Type in your new password following the on-screen rules, then click PROCEED WITH THIS PASSWORD.
Time Limit: The password reset link in the email expires after 1 hour. If you do not see the email within a few minutes, check your Spam or Promotions folders.
How an admin resets a password
- Search for and open the member's profile.
- Click the Reset Password link.
- In the pop-up window, choose one of these two options:
- Send User a Password Reset Link Via Email: This emails a secure link to the member so they can type in a password of their choice.
- Manually Reset this Password: This lets you type a new password for them right now. Enter the password in the pop-up box and click SAVE. You will need to give this new password to the member so they can log in.
Requirements for Admin passwords
If you are manually resetting a password for a profile that has administrator privileges, the password must be strong. It must meet these security standards:
- At least 12 characters long
- Includes at least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- Includes at least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- Includes at least one number (0-9)
- Includes at least one special character (!, @, #, or \)
- Does not match any of their last 4 passwords
- Does not match their username
- Is not an easy-to-guess password
Important notes about email history
- Tracking member resets: If a member uses the login page link themselves, the email is not saved in their admin message history. (The system cannot track this because the user is not logged in yet).
- Tracking admin resets: If an admin sends the email from the backend, it is saved in the member's message history with the subject line Password Reset Requested.
- Confirmation emails: Every time a password is changed from the admin backend, the user gets an email with the subject line Password Reset Confirmation. The system logs the email, but it does not track whether it was the admin or the member who triggered it.
- Delivery issues: All emails are logged on our internal servers. If a member claims they never got the email, contact our support team and we can look up whether the email was successfully delivered or opened.
