Deleting attributes

An attribute can only be deleted once no profile in your database uses it. That means clearing the attribute's content from every profile and removing it from your member types first. This article covers deleting an attribute, clearing it from profiles, and deleting a single selection inside a selection set.

Deleting an attribute

1. Go to Database > Attributes.
2. Find the attribute in the Custom Attributes section.
3. Select DELETE in the Actions column.

A greyed-out DELETE button means at least one profile still uses the attribute. Clear it from those profiles first.

Clearing an attribute from profiles

First, find every profile using the attribute and empty the field:

1. Go to the Profile List.
2. Run an advanced search using the criteria Attribute > your attribute > Is not empty.
3. Open each profile in the results and delete the attribute's content.

Next, remove the attribute from each member type it is assigned to:

1. Go to Database > Member Types.
2. Select EDIT SETTINGS for the member type.
3. Select ASSIGN CUSTOM ATTRIBUTES.
4. Find the attribute, then clear its checkbox.
5. Repeat for every member type the attribute is assigned to.

Once the attribute is cleared from every profile and unassigned from every member type, delete it.

Deleting a selection within a selection set

To remove one option from a selection set, go to Database > Attributes and select the selection set attribute. A greyed-out DELETE button next to the option means members still have it selected.

To find those members, go to the Profile List. Run an advanced search using the criteria Attribute > your attribute > Is > the selection you want to delete.

Clear the selection from every profile in the results. Either edit each profile individually and deselect the option, or import the profiles in bulk to swap the option for a different selection.

Once no profile uses the option, delete it from the selection set.
