About organization administration
Organization owners and community administrators can:
- Create an organization
- Edit organization details
- Manage organization members
- Publish an organization
Organization Managers can also approve and delete organizations. An Organization Manager is a community user with the Organization Manager or Organization Moderator admin role.
For the member view of organizations, see CommUnity | Organizations.
Creating an organization
Any community user can create an organization. An Organization Manager must approve the organization before it displays on the community site. For more information, see Publishing and approving organizations.
- On the Organizations directory page, select New Organization. The New Organization window opens.
- Enter the organization name in the Name field.
- Enter a description in the What We Do field.
- Select Save. The new organization opens to its Organization Profile page.
A new organization is marked Unapproved and Unpublished, which keeps unfinished profiles out of the Organization List. Owners can finish the profile and publish the organization, but an Organization Manager must approve it before it displays in the Organization List. An organization must be both approved and published to display to community users.
The user who creates the organization becomes its owner and is listed as a member in the Organization Member List. Owners can grant ownership to other organization members. For more information, see Managing organization members.

Unapproved or unpublished organizations don’t display in the Organization List. They appear in the Admin List on the Organization directory page, where Organization Managers can approve or deny them.

Organization owners and Organization Managers can publish or unpublish an organization:
- On the Organization Profile, open the contextual menu.

An unpublished organization shows an Unpublished label below its name on the Organization Profile and in the Admin List for Organization Managers. It doesn’t display in the Organization List and isn’t accessible to community members.

Only Organization Managers can approve organizations. Organization Managers see organizations that need approval in the Admin List on the Organization directory page. The Admin List displays only to Organization Managers. Each organization in the list shows a status of Approved, Unapproved, Published, or Unpublished.
- On the Organization directory page, find the organization in the Admin List.
- Select the organization. Its Organization Profile opens.
- In the contextual menu, select Approve Organization.
The Unapproved label is removed from the Organization Profile. The organization displays in the Organization List if it is also published. To withdraw approval, select Un-Approve Organization in the same menu.

- Select OK to delete the organization, or select Cancel to return to the Organization Profile.
