Expiration settings cannot be changed on an existing member type. To switch between period-of-time and date-based expiration, create a new member type with the desired settings, then move your members into it.
Creating the new member type
- Go to Database > Member Types and select EDIT DEFAULT SETTINGS.
- Under Membership & Expiration Settings, select either Expiration is Based on Date or Period of Time from the dropdown.
- Go back to Database > Member Types and select ADD AN INDIVIDUAL MEMBER TYPE or ADD AN ORGANIZATION MEMBER TYPE.
- To copy permissions from the original member type, select it from the Copy a Group's Permissions dropdown.
- Complete the remaining settings. See Adding individual member types or Adding organization member types for details.
Moving members to the new member type
- Go to your Profile List using the button in the top-right corner of your dashboard.
- Run an advanced search with the criteria Member Type > Is > [original member type].
- Run this search twice — once filtering for Active, Graced, Lapsed, Pending, and Deceased members, then again for Deleted profiles only. After each search, tag all members in the results.
- Select Actions in the bottom-right corner, then select Change Member Type.
- Select your new member type from the Member Types dropdown, then confirm the change.
Once all members have been moved, go to Database > Member Types to delete the original member type.
