Overview
This article outlines a few potential reasons why you cannot delete a member type or group.
The delete button is greyed out
If you navigate to Database > Member Types or Database > Groups and the DELETE button is greyed out, this means some profiles in your database are still connected to the member type or group. Before you can continue, these profiles need to be updated.
Deleted users attached to the member type
In your database, you may have deleted profiles connected to the member type or group. To search for deleted profiles, navigate to your Profile List. Add then fill in the criteria for [Member Type]. Run multiple search queries for both active and deleted profiles. Ensure Deleted profiles only is selected to search for deleted members still connected to the member type.
Select View Profile for any member that appears in your search results. Edit the member type settings in their profile and move them to a different member type.
Groups connected to the member type
Even if a profile is connected with a different member type, they may be in the group tied to the member type you want to delete.
Navigate to Profile List. Add then fill in the attribute [Group]. Run multiple search queries for both active and deleted profiles.
Select View Profile for any member that appears in your search results. Edit the group settings in their profile and de-select the group tied to the member type or group you want to delete.
Groups connected to the member type in an API client
If the DELETE button is still greyed out after the above two steps, you may have profiles tied to the member type or group through an API client.
Navigate to Settings > Accounts Settings, then click the API Management link in the top right corner of the screen. Hover over the API client connected to the member type, then click EDIT.
Underneath the Groups section, de-select the group tied to the member type in the dropdown menu.
For organization member types, ensure you de-select both the group attached to the organization profile, and the group attached to any linked profiles.
Head back to Database > Member Types or Database > Groups and the delete button should be accessible.
