A directory search page gives members and site visitors an easy way to search your member directory. As an administrator, you control which attributes appear on the search page and which profiles are eligible to appear in the results.

Overview
For example, if your organization offers a referral directory, you can create a search page where visitors search by region, specialty, or other demographic information. Searches can be limited to specific member types, to profiles with a given attribute value, or a combination of the two. Because you define which attributes are included in the search criteria, the directory search gives your users a simple, customizable experience.
Accessing the directory
Navigate to Community > Directory.
Configuring your directory search
- Select Add a Directory Search, then enter a name for the directory search.
- Set which members are eligible to appear in the results. If you have a directory for specific member types, such as a vendor or supplier directory, you can limit which profiles appear here.
Note: These filters control which profiles can appear in the results, not who can access and use the results.
- You can also limit results by an attribute selection. For example, if you let members opt in or out of the directory, a Yes/No selection set attribute can dictate that only members with "Yes" selected appear in the results.
- Select an attribute to include in the search from the dropdown. Doing so automatically adds the attribute to the search page. You can also add:
- A separator: A horizontal line between fields on the search page.
- A section title: A named section that breaks up the search page—useful when the page has many attributes that can be grouped.
-
A proximity search: A field where users enter their location (an exact address, or any combination of city, state, zip, county, and so on). Results are ordered nearest to farthest. When configuring proximity, you choose which address label is used for the distance calculations.
Note: Every proximity search page uses the same label for distance calculations, so updating the label affects all directory pages in use.
Adding your directory to your website
To make the search available to users on the front end, either:
- Add a menu item for the directory search. This option is recommended if a referral directory is a main reason people visit your site.
- In an article, create a link to the directory search using Site Links.
Viewing the directory on your website
Here's the directory search from a member's perspective.
Why members can't view other members
Members may reach out to say they can't access your member directory. This is usually due to your Group Attribute Security and/or directory settings. For details on how to correct it, see Why can't my members view other members in our member directory?
Quick tips
Both the attributes on the search page and the profiles in the search results are controlled by Attribute Security. If you've configured your search page and not all of the attributes you added appear, double-check your attribute security settings to make sure the appropriate groups have permission to see each attribute on the directory search page.
