Directory templates control the front end—the member view—of your member directory. Each template defines which attributes appear and how they're laid out, and you can assign different templates so that what a person sees depends on their group or on the group of the profile they're viewing.

Accessing directory templates
Navigate to Community > Directory, then select Directory Templates from the Directory page.
Creating a template
- On the Directory Templates page, select the New plus sign in the top-right corner.
- Give the new template a name, then select Create.
- On the edit screen, add the attributes you want to display in the template. To add an attribute, select Add a Row. You can add multiple rows to each section (except the top row) by selecting Add a Row again after saving an attribute.
Each row has the following settings:
- Label: Text that prefaces the attribute you're adding—for example, Email: ##Email##, where "Email:" is the label.
- Attribute: Selects which attribute to add.
- Style: Sets whether the attribute displays as bold and/or italic.
- Advanced Setup: Adds multiple attributes on the same line or row (for example, city, state, zip) and accepts HTML tags.
Assigning templates by viewer
Viewer assignments change how profiles display based on the person viewing the directory. When a group has a template assigned to it (other than default), members of that group see the directory through that template when viewing all other groups and members. Groups assigned the default template see the directory through whichever template is marked as default on the main search templates page (indicated with a yellow star). This differs from group assignments, where the display is based on the profile's group rather than the viewer's.
Setting up a viewer assignment
- Make sure you have more than one template on the search templates page. If not, create one for each group assignment before continuing.
- On the search templates page, select Assignments in the top-right corner. Your database groups appear in the left column, each with a template dropdown in the right column.
- Use each dropdown to select the template for that group. The dropdown contains all your current templates. The default option applies whichever template is set as default (marked with a yellow star on the main search template page).
Assigning templates by group
Group assignments change how profiles display based on the database group the profile belongs to. This differs from viewer assignments, where the display is based on the viewer's group rather than the profile's.
Setting up a group assignment
- On the search templates page, select the + icon next to the template you want to add a custom group template to.
- Select the group you're customizing the template for, then select Create.
- Complete the new template by adding the attributes in the layout of your choice.
- When finished, select Close toward the top-right. You return to the main search templates page, where your custom group template appears indented under the main group.
How profiles are sorted
Directories display alphabetically by last name, then first name, then organization name, based on the data configured in Group Attribute Security. If you're displaying an organizational member type, results sort by organization name.
