What are widgets?
The Widgets Manager allows administrators to control the content of specific, reusable blocks on your website. Examples include Announcement boxes, Quick Links menus, and Upcoming Events feeds.
Note: All widgets must be initially created and structured by the MC Professional Design Team. Once a widget is built, you can edit its text, images, or links on your own. If you have questions about adding a brand-new widget type to your site, please contact the Help Team.
To access these settings, go to Website > Widgets.
How Widgets work with Menu Items
Widgets are assigned directly to Menu Items, not to individual articles. Their visibility on your live website is determined entirely by the menu item a visitor is currently viewing:
- Home page example: Your homepage menu item might be set up to display a right-hand sidebar with an "Announcements" widget alongside your main text.
- Interior page example: When a member logs in and lands on a "Member Dashboard" page, that specific menu item can be set up to display a "Quick Links" widget instead.
-
Group landing page: If a member's default landing page is tied to a specific menu item, they will automatically see whatever widgets are assigned to that page.
Important note: The MC Professional Help Team must handle the backend layout mapping to choose which widgets appear on which pages. They can set a widget to display across your entire website or restrict it to show only on select pages. If you need a widget added to a new page or removed from an old one, simply contact the support team to update the assignment.
Important formatting rules
- Warning: We do not recommend copying and pasting text, images, or graphics directly from outside websites or programs into the widget editor. Doing so can pull hidden, incompatible HTML code into your system. This can break your website layout or cause email clients to display your content incorrectly. Always paste content as plain text and use the built-in editor tools to format it.
- Reusing content: Using widgets for broad updates (like holiday hours or general reminders) is an excellent way to save time. Updating the text inside a single widget will instantly update that text everywhere the widget is displayed across your site, saving you from editing multiple separate pages.
The latest news widget
This specific widget automatically scans your system and displays a clickable list of the most recently published or updated articles on your website. The sorting order is driven by the "Published Date" or "Modified Date" listed in your article manager. If you need to reorder the items in this list, you can manually change those dates inside the article settings. Reach out to our Help Team for more details.
