if the checkbox has a lock icon on it, how do you unlock it?

    Hi Chris,

Articles  or Menu Items which are being edited by an administrator are unaccessible until the admin closes the article edit mode, which is why you see the lock icon.  This prevents multiple admins from editing the same article at the same time and only one set of changes being saved.

If an admin doesn't close out of the article and the lock icon sticks, we can unlock it for you on our end.  Feel free to call or email us if this comes up.

Update: For added convenience, ASAs can now unlock articles and menu items. When logged in as an ASA, you will see Global Check-In under the Website menu.  Clicking Global Check-In will unlock all of the site content for editing.

I have created a new article and I want it to appear in the drop-down bar under Trainings.  How do I add this article to that drop-down bar?  Is there a step-by-step?

    Hi Alana,

I think this video will be the best resource for you.  The first half is about creating/editing the article (which you have already done) and the second half is about how to add a menu item to display the article.  You may also find this article useful.  It details the different types of menu items you can add.  It sounds like you will want to add a Single Article layout which appears under Article Content when adding a new menu item.

The order number appears to control the order in which the list appears when you are trying to insert a site link (article).  How do we change this so that the articles appear in alpha order so we can find the article we are looking for m ore easily?  I do NOT want to have to reapply numbering every time I create or delete an article.

    Hi Jani,

The order in the Article Manager does dictate the order in which articles appear when inserting site links after choosing the category.  There currently is not a way to change this ordering to be alphabetical.  I've added an suggestion to the Ideas forum here if you would like to vote on it.

That said, the easiest way to find the article you are linking is to search for its title in the site links modal window.  Instead of choosing a category, just click the search link.  You can search by partial titles or words, which makes the searching very efficient way to find what you're looking for because you don't have to type in the full article title.  Additionally, once you have performed a search, you can sort by unique ID, title, created date, modified date or the order within Article Manager.

Hello! I uploaded a PowerPoint presentation in the Media Manager. I tried inserting the shortcut / url in the "Insert /Edit embedded media" and it is not showing up when I click on preview. What am I do wrong? Thanks for your time!

Alexandra - A PowerPoint file will need to be linked using the "site links" option in the editor.  It is not possible to have it display as actual content in an article.

i cant find the site links option. can you send me a screenshot of where it is?

Alexandra - Here you go!  The button is directly below the editor window - you won't see it if you've expanded the editor to full screen though.

Thank you! I have post PowerPoint presentations, where do I link it from? Do I have to use another website in order to use it?

If you've uploaded the PowerPoint presentation to your Media Manager, you can simply use the site links button to add a link into any article.  Once linked, your users can click to open/view the file.

I am trying to create a link on a page to a .pdf file that I uploaded in the documents section.  When I click on "site links" and "file" I cannot see any of my files.  How do I create the link?

    Hello MemberClicks!

I set permissions on a category just fine, but I am wondering, can I set permissions per article? Would that be in the Parameters Advanced Section, or am I just headed in the wrong direction?

    Thank,
    Amber

Hey Amber - You absolutely can set permissions on a per-article basis.  When you're in the article manager (not editing a specific article) click the "permissions" button towards the top-right.

    Hey Gregory!
Thank you for answering my question. I have just one more. My permissions section is not alphabetical. Do I need to scroll through my very long list of articles or is there an easier way to change the permissions in that section?  It overwhelming.
    Thanks,
    Amber

Amber - At this time that's the only way to change article permissions.  You can sort the list alphabetically though to make it a bit easier - click the "Article" title in the header row once or twice to sort descending/ascending.

    Hello!

I am having a tough time trying to insert pdf & audio from the media manager. I uploaded everything, that's not a problem.

When I click the movie strip icon, insert/edit embedded media, I see what I uploaded, but I can not insert it. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    Amber

Amber - You'll want to use the site links option rather than the embedded media one.  They'll end up as links in the article that will open the associated files when you're done.  You can take a peek at this article for more info on site links.

Ok, I figured out that I need to double click the file I want in order to have the Insert a link option to show up.

BUT now when I click Preview in the article editor the mp3 plays and then all my MemberClicks pages/tabs go to this page that shows this picture. Then I have to login again. This is frustrating.

I need to edit the Header on the home page, but can't seem to find where it is.  I have looked through all of the menus can someone point me in the right direction.

Hi Lori - The header is associated with your template, which our Design Team will need to edit for you. To request updates to the header, please send an email to help@memberclicks.com on the changes that you'd like to see made. If you need your logo or an image switched out, please attach that image as well.

I want to have a menu item that links directly to a PDF. I tried using the "external link" article format, but I can't get it to work. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Avatar
    Kinsey Mahan

Michael - There are a couple of options options:

    a) Before adding the external link menu item, navigate to Website > Media Manager and copy the URL specific to the PDF you're linking to. Paste that URL into the external link box when creating the menu item, then save.

    b) Create an article with a "click here" link to the PDF. This isn't a direct link like option a is, but some admins prefer it as users have more control over whether they choose to "click here" when they know that they'll be downloading a PDF (whereas with a menu item, a regular website page is typically expected).

    I hope that helps!

How do I remove a "Read More..." link so I can insert it in a different place in an article?  Thanks!

  • Avatar
    Kinsey Mahan

Hi Stacy - To remove a Read More link, edit the article > place your cursor before the faint grey Read More line, and backspace until it goes away. Then, use the Read More button at the bottom of the editor window to add the Read More in where you want it. I've attached a screencast as an example.
