    Hey Gregory!
Thank you for answering my question. I have just one more. My permissions section is not alphabetical. Do I need to scroll through my very long list of articles or is there an easier way to change the permissions in that section?  It overwhelming.
    Thanks,
    Amber

Is there any way to turn off Category sorting in the Article Manager? It used to be, that my Home page was right at the top, when I went into the manager, without my having to do any sorting. But because it's now sorting by category no matter what, and then pulling the order from the category, the top of the list is a group of pages that are more than a year old, and aren't being updated anymore. It's a frustrating time waster.

    Hi Katherine,

As the default order of a category is a system-wide setting, I'm afraid there isn't a way to edit this so that the order is different once an item is copied. This could make a fine suggestion on our feature request page, however, for our design team to take a look at. I will place a link to this page below.

The order number appears to control the order in which the list appears when you are trying to insert a site link (article).  How do we change this so that the articles appear in alpha order so we can find the article we are looking for m ore easily?  I do NOT want to have to reapply numbering every time I create or delete an article.

    Hello MemberClicks!

I set permissions on a category just fine, but I am wondering, can I set permissions per article? Would that be in the Parameters Advanced Section, or am I just headed in the wrong direction?

    Thank,
    Amber

Kinsey - All of the column headers are clickable, so that you can tell the system to sort by that column. But when I click on Order as my sorting method, it doesn't just sort by order, because it is taking the order within each category. So first it sorts by category, alphabetically, and then the order in that category. For example, my first two categories, alphabetically, are the 2013 Annual Conference, and 2013 Event - 2014.

So if I click to sort Order Ascending, the top of my page displays:

    • 2013 Annual Conference 1, 2, 3, 4... 27,28
    • 2013 Event - 2014 pages 1, 2, 3, 4...10, 11

And if I click to sort Order Descending, the manager arranges them as:

    • 2013 Annual Conference pages 28, 27, 26, 25...2, 1
    • 2013 Event - 2014 pages 11, 10, 9, 8...2, 1

Order never overrides Category. Hope that clarifies.

    Hi Jani,

The order in the Article Manager does dictate the order in which articles appear when inserting site links after choosing the category.  There currently is not a way to change this ordering to be alphabetical.  I've added an suggestion to the Ideas forum here if you would like to vote on it.

That said, the easiest way to find the article you are linking is to search for its title in the site links modal window.  Instead of choosing a category, just click the search link.  You can search by partial titles or words, which makes the searching very efficient way to find what you're looking for because you don't have to type in the full article title.  Additionally, once you have performed a search, you can sort by unique ID, title, created date, modified date or the order within Article Manager.

    Hello!

I am having a tough time trying to insert pdf & audio from the media manager. I uploaded everything, that's not a problem.

When I click the movie strip icon, insert/edit embedded media, I see what I uploaded, but I can not insert it. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks!

Hello! I uploaded a PowerPoint presentation in the Media Manager. I tried inserting the shortcut / url in the "Insert /Edit embedded media" and it is not showing up when I click on preview. What am I do wrong? Thanks for your time!

Ok, I figured out that I need to double click the file I want in order to have the Insert a link option to show up.

BUT now when I click Preview in the article editor the mp3 plays and then all my MemberClicks pages/tabs go to this page that shows this picture. Then I have to login again. This is frustrating.

Ok so I have made a copy of our conference page from last year, so I can use it as a starting point in creating this years conference page.  however every time I go into the page to edit the Title to this year and click save it doesn't seem to stick.  I click save, say that I know that links maybe broken or need to be updated however when I close it out the title change did not save.  not sure what I am doing wrong.

Alexandra - A PowerPoint file will need to be linked using the "site links" option in the editor.  It is not possible to have it display as actual content in an article.

Amber - You'll want to use the site links option rather than the embedded media one.  They'll end up as links in the article that will open the associated files when you're done.  You can take a peek at this article for more info on site links.

I need to edit the Header on the home page, but can't seem to find where it is.  I have looked through all of the menus can someone point me in the right direction.

Hi Emma - You can hover over the Website tab to click on Global Check In. The Global Check In will check in any locked articles or menu items that are marked as being worked on by another administrator. That should do the trick!

Alexandra - Here you go!  The button is directly below the editor window - you won't see it if you've expanded the editor to full screen though.

Hi Lori - The header is associated with your template, which our Design Team will need to edit for you. To request updates to the header, please send an email to help@memberclicks.com on the changes that you'd like to see made. If you need your logo or an image switched out, please attach that image as well.

Katherine - I'm sorry to hear that you're frustrated. Just to make sure I'm understanding, you should be able to sort the articles by all column heads - title, date published, etc. Are you seeing the ability to sort by those items, but asking about the ability to control the default sort? Any details would be helpful!

Thank you! I have post PowerPoint presentations, where do I link it from? Do I have to use another website in order to use it?

  • Avatar
    Kinsey Mahan

Michael - There are a couple of options options:

    a) Before adding the external link menu item, navigate to Website > Media Manager and copy the URL specific to the PDF you're linking to. Paste that URL into the external link box when creating the menu item, then save.

    b) Create an article with a "click here" link to the PDF. This isn't a direct link like option a is, but some admins prefer it as users have more control over whether they choose to "click here" when they know that they'll be downloading a PDF (whereas with a menu item, a regular website page is typically expected).

    I hope that helps!

if the checkbox has a lock icon on it, how do you unlock it?

If you've uploaded the PowerPoint presentation to your Media Manager, you can simply use the site links button to add a link into any article.  Once linked, your users can click to open/view the file.

Hi Stacy - To remove a Read More link, edit the article > place your cursor before the faint grey Read More line, and backspace until it goes away. Then, use the Read More button at the bottom of the editor window to add the Read More in where you want it. I've attached a screencast as an example.
