The CMS allows you to add the following metadata attributes: keywords, description, robots and author.
Keywords: Keywords is a comma separated list of words which highlight the topics within your content. The keywords attribute became popular for SEO in the mid-1990s. However, due to historical abuse of the attribute, there is much speculation today as to how much search engines rely on the keywords attribute when ranking sites.
Description: This attribute provides a concise summary of the page content. Some search engines may display the description attribute in search results.
Robots: This attribute allows you to give specific instructions for robots indexing your content. Robots are tools used by search engines to index websites and website content. Common examples of what you may find in this field include:
- Entering "noindex" in this field instructs robots not to index the page
- Entering "nofollow" instructs robots not to crawl links on the page. In this example, robots are told to index the content of the page, but not to follow any links within the content
- Entering "noarchive" instructs robots not to store an archived copy of the page
Author: This attribute indicates the author of the content
To add metadata to an article, navigate to Website > Article Manager > click the name of an article to edit it. Once in article edit mode, click Metadata Information to expand the metadata section.
The Metadata Information section will allow you to add the description, keywords, robots and author attributes to your site. When finished, click save as normal.
After your domain is setup, you will want to submit it to http://www.google.com/addurl/ which is a free service to help Google spider your website and will eventually result in your site getting search engine hits.
You may also want to consider opening an Adwords account with Google. This is a paid service offered by Google, but will almost certainly help you get the appropriate traffic on your site.
