If I manually added a profile and gave it the next number in sequence, why doesn't the form know, if the field is linked to an attribute, to look at existing numbers and grab the next one?  I am ending up with duplicates.

How would you go back and add numbers to form that had previously been submitted? We'd like to give people membership numbers. We might want to go back and give previously validated members a number as well.

Brenda - At this time the form field doesn't have the capability to check existing numbers before assigning them.  What I usually end up doing is starting the form field at let's say 5000, then start somewhere else for manual entries - maybe 8000.  That way you don't end up with any duplicates.

Liz - You can export your database and add membership numbers to the file, then do a data import to update the profiles.  There isn't a way to go through the form to do this.

Are the numbers unique to the system or to the form?  I have multiple membership applications.  If I need each member to have a unique ID, do I need a different starting number for each form?

Hi Susan - Yes, you will want to assign a different starting number on each membership application form you're using to assign unique IDs.

    Hello Gregory and Kinsey,

Have the form capabilities been updated from your 2013 posts?  (Meaning, does the form now have the ability to check the system for duplicate membership numbers before assigning a new number).

Hi Katie - At this time forms still key off of email address, rather than membership number, when searching for duplicate profiles.

How do you manually assign an ID after the person fills out a form? There were some form issues with one person and they first were a basic contact by mistake and then I corrected them to a full member. The ID is blank.

    Hi Christine,

As we recently spoke about this on the phone, just let us know if you need any further assistance!

Chris, I decided to add more commentary about this topic. Thanks! -- Please take to the team that it would be a huge benefit if every new profile would generate a member ID. For parent/child relationships, having to individually assign a member ID to each child (and then email them to notify), which the form doesn't do both, is time-consuming, and without the capability of the system detecting duplicates, it's going to be a problem when these members use these IDs for particular discounts we have with other vendors. Because of an increase in our membership, we have more parent/child memberships and I have 18 IDs to assign to children, and I haven't done it yet because I don't know where to start and fear duplication issues. Thank you for your consideration! Looking forward to an update.

Since my last post, the member ID issue is figured out, and I understand that each new form needs member numbers assigned. I encountered a new question about this though today. On the parent/child forms (corporate membership form for our group), I assigned the form to start out with a unique ID but how do you assign the children the number too? The children are starting out at a different number that I didn't assign to. How can I revise it? It's not clear. I thought the numbers would cascade to the children too.

Whoo hoo - I found the box to change it. Nevermind!
