How do you make the search only available for members? Right now, if I link to the search it is available to the public to see. I don't want the public to even have access to the page that the search is on.

Matthew - You can embed the search in an article and permission that, or you can add it as a menu item and permission that. This way, when site linking to it, rather than linking to the search itself, link to the member's only article or menu item it's tied to. I hope that helps!

Has this feature been changed since this article was posted? My database drop-down menu has a "user search results" option, but not a "user search pages" option.

Hi Jen - The feature hasn't been changed, but we do occasionally find clients without it turned on. I just added the permissions for APC, so you should see the User Search Pages option in the dropdown now.

Never new this was available! Thanks for the email letting us know!  One question - I set up a search because I wanted to give a bit of direction at the beginning of the search. I figured I would put that in the Section Title area. When I selected edit, it was making me recreate a whole new search. Any way to just add to what is already built?

Hi Gail - I'm glad to hear that you received the email and are getting the search set up. You should be able to create multiple new searches, or edit existing ones. The functionality you're referring to is definitely available though - I've included a video here of myself inserting the User Search in to an Article, which allows me to add a title, description, etc. as needed. This video also demonstrates that same thing. Good Luck!

Is there a way to limit the number of results per page on the search? I only want a few to show up and then the user will have the option to go to page 2, 3, etc.

Hi Dana - There isn't a way to limit the number of results per page at this point. Sorry about that!

    Hi there!

Is it possible to allow members to opt-in or opt-out of whether or not they want to share their email addresses with other members searching the database? Or is it one size fits all for which fields are searchable by the membership?

    Thank you!

    Hi Ben,

While there isn't a specific 'opt-out' option to hide an attribute, it is possible for a member to make individual attributes private so that they will not display within a search. To toggle this option on, all you need do is enter the 'system permissions' tab under 'group management' and under the Database Admin section, give your members permission to hide themselves. When a member logs in and edits their profile, they will then have the ability to hide their information.
